Event Terms & Safety Guidelines
Delaware Walks For Recovery
By registering for or participating in Delaware Walks For Recovery (“the Event”), participants agree to the following terms and safety guidelines. These guidelines are intended to promote safety, respect, and shared responsibility throughout the duration of the Event.
1. Voluntary Participation
Participation in Delaware Walks For Recovery is entirely voluntary. Individuals choose to participate at their own discretion, whether by walking, sponsoring, donating, or engaging in related activities.
Participants acknowledge that walking and event participation involve inherent risks, including but not limited to physical exertion, weather conditions, uneven surfaces, traffic exposure, and interaction with the public.
2. Personal Health & Fitness Responsibility
Participants are responsible for assessing their own physical condition and determining whether participation is appropriate. Individuals should walk only at a pace and distance that is safe and comfortable for them.
Participants are encouraged to:
Wear appropriate footwear and clothing
Stay hydrated
Take breaks as needed
Seek medical advice prior to participation if they have health concerns
Organizers do not provide medical clearance or supervision and are not responsible for individual health decisions.
3. Safety & Conduct
Participants agree to:
Follow all local, state, and federal laws while participating
Obey traffic laws and use sidewalks, crosswalks, and designated walking areas
Be respectful of other participants, community members, and public spaces
Avoid unsafe behavior, harassment, or actions that could endanger others
Organizers reserve the right to restrict or remove participation if conduct is unsafe, disruptive, or inconsistent with the mission of recovery and community wellbeing.
4. Route & Section Participation
Routes and sections are symbolic and community-based. Participants are not required to complete routes in a specific order or within a specific time unless otherwise stated. Completion of sections for recognition or friendly competition purposes must follow published participation guidelines and verification methods.
5. Assumption of Risk & Release
By participating, individuals assume full responsibility for any risk of injury, illness, loss, or damage arising from participation in the Event. Participants agree to release and hold harmless the Event organizers, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and affiliated organizations from liability to the fullest extent permitted by law.
6. Media & Public Recognition
By participating, individuals grant permission for their name, team name, and publicly shared participation posts to be acknowledged for event recognition, reporting, and promotional purposes. No private information will be shared without consent.
7. Weather & Event Modifications
The Event may proceed in various weather conditions. Participants are responsible for monitoring weather forecasts and making safe participation decisions. Organizers reserve the right to modify, postpone, or cancel portions of the Event if safety concerns arise.
8. Community Standards
Delaware Walks For Recovery is grounded in respect, inclusion, and dignity. Participants are expected to uphold these values and recognize that recovery affects individuals and families across diverse backgrounds and experiences.
9. Agreement
By registering, participants confirm that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Event Terms & Safety Guidelines. These terms are subject to updates as the Event evolves. Participants will be notified of any material changes.
